8bit Drums - Free (7.5/10)
This one is somewhat lesser known, but actually delivers when it comes to creating customizable 8bit drum sounds.Successes
-Actually generates its own sounds
-Sounds like 8bit drums
Failures
-Excessively large GUI
SKdrummer - Free (4/10)
First of all, just let me say that if you grew up with a shitty little keyboard from the 80's, this VST will make you giggle like a little girl. If you didn't, this will just sound like tinny, lo-fi drum samples.Successes
-Sounds like the drums from an SK-1
-+1 for nostalgia factor.
-Pitch and volume sliders
Failures
-Might as well just download a few samples if this doesn't bring back memories.
Toad - Free (5/10)
This one has sounds that more of you will recognize, since it's based off sounds from the NES.Successes
-Sounds like an NES.
-Some extra knobs.
Failures
-Little more than a glorified sample pack.
good ty for info are fuckin usefull!
ReplyDeleteNES sounds, without having to..you know. tweek a nes. handy
ReplyDeleteI'll stick with frooty loops for now, but if I get any good at it, I'll investigate some of these programs. Thanks for the tips.
ReplyDeleteThis doesn't look that bad! I'll check it out!
ReplyDeletefollowing~
In my mind, at least for drums, if you are going for a retro-feel, why not just use samples? These VST items seem bulky for that rhythmic area.
ReplyDeletehell yeah. i'm going to obviously try out the better rated one!
ReplyDeletelooks like some good software.
ReplyDeleteNice info!
ReplyDeleteYeah, a lot of percussion VSTs don't do much more than samples would anyway. I appreciate ones that allow you to customize and generate new sounds though.
ReplyDeleteWill sure check these oout
ReplyDeletehols shit that first one looks complicated :D
ReplyDeletewow, that looks like a lot of work
ReplyDeletei wish that its not so complicated
